"Make Your Own" Kit Training

DfGU provides trainings that combine reproductive health seminars with lessons in how to construct your very own reusable menstrual kit. Each participant makes 1 shield, 1 liner, and 1 drawstring backpack. The rest of the Kit is provided pre-made to ensure she has a lasting product. This is a great way to engage in the topic of menstrual hygiene with a fun, hands-on activity. This 2-day training program includes introduction to kit making and reproductive health lessons. Fill out the application form below to get a customized budget from DfG Uganda.

Days for Girls University- Complete Organizational Enterprise Training

Leaders and Organizations can apply for and fund DfG University. Participants learn how communities and organizations can form a DfG Enterprise to make and sell Days for Girls washable menstrual kits in their communities.  During this training, participants learn kit construction, learn to make liquid and bar soap, learn basic business skills and Ambassador of Women's Health training. This option includes an “Enterprise In A Box” starter pack and the ability to order ongoing supplies through Days for Girls Uganda as well as learning to develop local supply chains. This is a 2-week residential training program located in Kampala, Uganda, and open to those starting Enterprises in Africa. The cost is approximately $1,500 including the Enterprise In A Box, room & board, training materials, and tuition.

How do we plan to reach every girl? We partner. We empower and we charge a fee to cover the costs of our training programs, which includes material costs, transportation, accommodation (if outside of Kampala), and an administrative fee, which goes towards sustaining our operational costs.

About Us:

DfGU is a registered Ugandan NGO working to make quality sustainable feminine hygiene available to all.

Our history:

In 2012, Celeste Mergens traveled with a team to Uganda to conduct a training program with 40 women from across Uganda. The women learned how to make reusable menstrual pads and how to promote awareness and proactive discussions about menstrual hygiene management issues. From this group, a small team of leaders emerged with the goal of transforming the Days for Girls International mission into a sustainable, locally oriented model for Uganda.

Days for Girls Uganda (DfGU) was officially launched in 2013. Almost a year was spent on program design, planning, and evaluation before the model was fully realized. Today, DfGU travels across the country providing three unique programs. The goal is to not only meet the immediate menstrual hygiene needs of girls and women, but also generate longer-term employment opportunities for community groups so that they can continue to access MHM products and generate awareness in their communities and to mentor other in-country programs around the globe.
