Keeping Girls in School
Days for Girls has received generous support from Rotary Clubs of Madison, WI, and Tema-Meridian, Ghana. In partnership with the University of Wisconsin, Madison and led by our Center staff, DfG will distribute 3,000 DfG Kits to school girls in Ghana.
Ghana, like many other areas of the world, has a great need for menstrual hygiene solutions. A 2012 study found that over 90% of girls in rural areas of Ghana reported missing school during menstruation. (Montgomery et al, 2012) This is one reason why supporting Micro-Enterprises in more rural areas is so important!
One key component of the Rotary project will be monitoring and evaluation. Days for Girls team members will be measuring absentee rates among school girls before and after distribution of Kits, as well as self-esteem, etc. Check out our monitoring and evaluation page for more information on how Days for Girls is measuring impact around the world, and how you can be a part of it!
Days for Girls looks forward to gathering the data after the Kit distribution, and for sharing more about the many ways that Kits are lifting girls in Ghana. Stay tuned for further updates!
